"It can't be done."

How many times have you missed the
opportunity of a lifetime because someone said
"You can't."

...can't make the grades
...can't get a better job
...can't afford it
...can't achieve that goal
...can't solve a social problem
...can't head out on an adventure.

And you believed them!

I'll turn the worst '4-letter word' in the English
language into your key to success.

          * Learn why people tell you your goal 'can't' be achieved.
Because they're just unhappy, negative people.
Because they tried and failed...and are blaming it on someone else.
Because they tried and failed...back in another era under different
                                circumstances.
Because they tried and failed...and can bear to see you succeed.
Because they judged you based on their preconceived ideas about you.

          * Learn why you believe you 'can't' do it!
Because your just an unhappy, negative person.
Because you know you can't  do it because everyone said you can't do it.
Because you don't want to fail...again.
Because you compare yourself with your peers.
Because you set unrealistic goals you know you cannot reach.

          * Learn how to unlock the power of 'can't' and make it the key to
             accomplishing your life's dreams.

Finally get tired of listening to all their reasons you 'can't' do it.
Listen to every reason they say you 'can't' and sort out the real  from the
                                hot air.
                        Write down their legitimate reasons.
Present your goal to people who sincerely want you to succeed.
Ask them to tell you every reason they think it can't be done.
Write down every 'can't'. This 'can't' list is now your 'To Do' list.
Sort the lists into four lists: Irrelevant, Easy, Challenging and Realistically
                                Impossible.

                        1. Ignore the Irrelevant.
                        2. Take care of the Easy.
                        3. Tackle the Challenging.
                                a. Note the ones that will require lots of time to accomplish and
                                        make a plan.
                                b. Do the easiest one first. Finish it.
                                c. Find the next easiest task. Do it. Keep doing the easiest thing on
                                        your list.
                                d. Why always be struggling against the hardest item on the list!
                                e. When it looks nearly impossible remind yourself, "There's gotta be
                                        a way!"
                        4. Don't waste time and energy feeling sorry for yourself about the
                                        Impossible
                                a. Find an alternative solution.
                                b. Re-think the Impossible and adjust it to a Challenge.
                                c. Maybe it wasn't that essential after all!

He told me,
"It can't be done."

So I thanked him and walked away.

It was the best advice I ever got.
